Burt: Hey, I’m Burt from ViewSonic and I’m here to answer your most frequently asked questions about our displays. Today’s question is: How do I clean an LCD display? He turns to the monitor.

Burt: Doesn’t it seem like displays always get smudges, dust, or fingerprints on them? These aren’t just eyesores; they’re also distracting and ultimately affect productivity.

Burt: First, let’s talk about the wrong way to clean your screen.

Super: Removing Dust with Your Fingers

Burt: I know, we’ve all done this before. But if you press too hard, you will leave fingerprints on the screen.

Super: Using Window Cleaners

Burt: Glass cleaners, especially those that contain ammonia, are great for cleaning windows, but bad for a display and its coating. Quite frankly, it’s overkill for wiping off fingerprints and smudges.

Super: Cleaning with Alcohol

Burt: You should also avoid wipes and sprays with alcohol, because they can leave streaks or permanently damage the touch-sensitive layer.

Super: Wiping with Paper Towels, Tissues, or Clothes

Burt: In addition to being aware of harsh chemicals that could leave your screen cloudy and hazy, be aware of the fabrics you use to clean. Paper towels, tissues or even the sleeves of your shirt might seem gentle and soft, but they can scratch the screen and damage the coating like fine sandpaper.

Burt: Now the moment that you’ve all been waiting for... Here’s the correct way to clean your screen.

Super: Step 1 - Power Off Monitor

Burt: First, turn off and unplug your monitor.

Super: Step 2 – Use a Dry Microfiber Cloth

Burt: Grab a dedicated, soft, dry microfiber cloth, which is made from very fine synthetic fibers that can effectively lift dust and oil without scratching the screen surface. But make sure the microfiber cloth is clean.

Burt: Wipe the screen gently... in circular motions.

Super: Step 3 (Optional) - Use a Slightly Damp Cloth

Burt: If needed, dampen the cloth lightly with distilled water.

Burt: You only need a tiny amount. Remember: Never spray anything directly onto the screen.

Burt: And that’s how you keep your ViewSonic display clean.
